SpamMeltdown.com is a source of inspiration for designers of HTML emails but is also an interesting website for clients to browse. The name SpamMeltdown is a bit misleading - the site is really focussed on showcasing opt in corporate emails people want to receive, not actual spam (Viagra, anyone?).
The site is a wealth of resources featuring sample email blast designs for the likes of Bloomingdales and Pottery Barn and other brands.
Samples are further showcased based on other parameters:
- Color Usage: This section features a series of designs with a concentration of a given colour.
- Design Elements & Techniques: Highlighted design elements are showcased. Rounded corners, anyone?
- Industries: Zero in on what restaurants, hotels or the fashion world has been up to.
- Topical: Time or season specific samples. Happy Father’s Day!

Whether you are a client or a fellow designer, you will always need good sources for design inspiration. At Mouth Media, before designing a site we have our clients provide a list of websites that they like. This gives us an idea of the style of design our client likes, be it a clean corporate style, or a grungy urban look. Sometimes this proves difficult as most clients who come to a design firm looking for a new website don’t know where to look to find really aesthetically pleasing websites.
In this latest post, we will share with you some of the places we go to for our own design inspiration when beginning a website. We strongly encourage you (our clients and our friends) to check these sites out so you can have at your disposal a current list of beautiful websites from across the web.

Over the past week or so, there has been a lot of buzz around the blogosphere about a really neat little video called “Fifty People One Question.” It’s basically exactly how it sounds, they ask fifty people the same question and film their responses. Some of the responses are quite surprising. I thought this video was brilliant and definitely worth sharing on our blog. They plan on doing a bunch more of these videos, and I personally cannot wait until they put up another one! Check it out for yourself!

This is an amazing film for designers and the general public alike. Highly recommended.
Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which recently celebrated its 50th birthday) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. Helvetica is currently screening at film festivals, museums, design conferences, and cinemas worldwide and is available on DVD.
Did the Helvetica film change my life? Well, no but it was pretty damn cool and great to understand the perspectives of Helvetica lovers and hater alike. It did, however, lead me spend about $250.00 online on font and graphics design books!

This is an oldie but a goodie and one of the craziest websites of all time, really pushing the envelope for a product-based site. Warning: This may offend women under 35. Enjoy.

Marc Cain (the company) is an international fashion company based in Germany with stores all over the world.
This site is extremely well designed. The Campaigns page is my favourite - I love how the thumbnails at the bottom fill as the portfolio reveals itself. Kudos to the incredible site photography as well. In fact, the first time I viewed this site, I thought it was a photographer’s portfolio, not a product based site!
As a side note, Marc Cain (the man) was an Italian couturier who died in a fatal accident while driving his Ferrari on a highway between Modena and Bologna.

This is an incredible website. DaysWithMyFather.com is an online journal and photo essay by Phillip Toledano which chronicles his father, their relationship and whatever days they have left together.
From a design perspective, it is extremely well-designed with a clean, simple layout and a refreshing use of Flash. From a content perspective, it is a very moving website.
This website is an 11 out of 10. Have a peek: www.dayswithmyfather.com

We’ve just launched our first bilingual English/Chinese website! Lawyers Swales and Wei contracted us to design and launch www.swlegalservices.ca to support their growing practice which serves both the English and Chinese community in the GTA.
Our Research - what’s out there?
At the start of any project we look for benchmark sites - sites from the same industry that we want compete with in terms of design, functionality and user experience. Looking for Chinese language sites in the legal profession with a clean, crisp look and feel (the client’s wishes) left us empty handed. Is this an untapped niche market?
